Velodyne Lidar Teams Up with MOV.AI to Provide Automation Solutions for Industrial and E-commerce Robots
Velodyne Lidar and MOV.AI have announced that the two companies are collaborating to offer enterprise-grade automation solutions to robot manufacturers, including mapping, navigation, obstacle avoidance, and risk mitigation. The integration of MOV.AI Robotics Engine PlatformTM with Velodyne's lidar sensors meets the growing demand for automation in dynamic collaborative environments such as e-commerce, logistics, manufacturing, and hospitals.
The MOV.AI Robotics Engine Platform™, powered by the Velodyne Puck™ lidar sensor, offers advanced tools that enable autonomous mobile robot (AMR) manufacturers and integrators to meet the challenges of safe movement in constantly changing unstructured environments, such as material handling and warehouse logistics. These markets are being driven by the sharp growth of e-commerce.
The Robotics Engine Platform assists AMR manufacturers in quickly developing and deploying robots that can operate smoothly in dynamic environments where humans, manual machines, and robots work together. The platform leverages the outstanding performance and reliability of the Velodyne Puck™ lidar sensor, enabling mobile robots to venture beyond controlled environments and operate safely in unfamiliar and unpredictable settings. The compact form factor of the Velodyne Puck™ allows for easy integration into robots and maintains high precision in complex indoor and outdoor environments.
Velodyne Lidar and MOV.AI are collaborating to offer robot manufacturers enterprise-level automation solutions, including mapping, navigation, obstacle avoidance, and risk mitigation.
MOV.AI's Robotics Engine Platform™, based on ROS, provides AMR manufacturers and automation integrators with the enterprise-level tools needed for advanced automation. This includes a visual integrated development environment (IDE), ready-made algorithms and integrations, fleet management, flexible interfaces for warehouse environments (such as ERP and WMS), and cybersecurity compliance. The solution is capable of providing precision within a margin of error of no more than 2 centimeters for 65% of dynamic environments.
Fernando Freitas, CEO of RoboSavvy, the manufacturer of the autonomous mobile robot TUGBOT.ai, said, "Integrating MOV.AI and Velodyne's technologies into TUGBOT.ai has provided our robots with a ready-made, high-precision navigation and positioning solution suitable for the highly dynamic environments where we deploy AMRs. Using lidar-based SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) allows TUGBOT.ai to navigate safely and stably among people and other vehicles."
The MOV.AI Robotics Engine Platform™, powered by the Velodyne Puck™ lidar sensor, aids autonomous mobile robot (AMR) manufacturers in quickly developing and deploying robots that can operate effectively in dynamic environments, enabling them to run smoothly in environments where humans, manual machines, and robots work together. The platform allows mobile robots to venture beyond controlled settings and operate safely in unfamiliar and unpredictable conditions.
MOV.AI's CEO, Motti Kushnir, also noted, "MOV.AI's mission is to simplify the development of collaborative robots and to provide AMR manufacturers and integrators with everything they need to develop and operate high-quality robots. Through our collaboration with Velodyne, we are able to offer our customers advanced SLAM navigation powered by one of the world's leading lidar sensors, the Velodyne Puck™. Using our Robotics Engine Platform allows AMR manufacturers to quickly implement state-of-the-art navigation and customize it to their needs."
"We are very excited about our collaboration with MOV.AI and the integration of our lidar sensors into the Robotics Engine Platform, with plans to expand to our solid-state lidar products, Velarray and Velabit," said Erich Smidt, Executive Director of Velodyne Lidar Europe. "The demand for automation is growing, especially with the integration of our sensors into collaborative robots. We see significant potential in this field — according to Fortune Business Insights, the global AMR market is expected to reach $8.7 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate of 23.7% from 2021 to 2028. Our partnership with MOV.AI can help us bring safety, efficiency, and sustainability to the industrial sector on a global scale."
