Meeting the needs of the next-generation hyperscale data centers and enterprise data centers
• Delivery of 400G and 100G fiber optic data centers, cloud, and wireless applications
• Introduction of new 112G active cables expands the range of copper-based solutions
• Offering a complete range of product options that can be "mixed and matched" based on distance and application scenarios
• Molex teams up with Celestica and Innovium to provide compelling reference designs
Lisle, Illinois—April 30, 2021—Molex, a global provider of connectors and electronic solutions, is deploying an expanded range of high-speed copper and fiber optic connectors and modules globally to help customers better meet the market's demand for higher bandwidth. Molex's extensive portfolio of next-generation connectivity solutions leverages the latest advancements in copper and fiber optic technologies to deliver high signal integrity, lower latency, and insertion loss, achieving optimal efficiency, speed, and density.
Gartner expects that with the recovery of large enterprise facility construction and the expansion of hyperscale data centers globally, this year's end-user spending on global data center infrastructure will reach $200 billion. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for bandwidth-intensive data-driven services has surged, driving enhancements in computing, data storage, and network capabilities. To keep pace, companies are transitioning from a unified data center design to a distributed and disaggregated architecture design, which poses significant challenges to connectivity systems.
Aldo Lopez, president of Molex's Data Communications Solutions division, said, "Reconfiguration is not a one-size-fits-all interconnect technology; it supports different applications in today's enterprises and hyperscale data centers." We provide future-proof interconnect solutions to our customers and ecosystem partners, which simplifies the transition to new architectures and engineering development, while reducing cost and time to market.
Driving Copper Cable Innovation with New 112G AEC Cables
Molex has added a new 112G active cable (AEC) to its copper interconnect solutions series to extend the coverage range of links at higher data rates. The AEC can extend distances up to 5 meters without the need for fiber optics, while also supporting thinner wires to improve cable management. AEC also supports gearbox functionality and smart cable features to increase measures for system-level redundancy.
The latest member of Molex's copper interconnect product family is the active copper cable (ACC), which works like a passive cable but can extend the range of external cables and supports low-power linear amplifier semiconductors to improve power management and meet thermal requirements. Molex's industry-leading BiPass technology completes the copper line product range, providing top-notch signal integrity through various Near-ASIC connector solutions, including the TASIC and NearStack connector series.
Molex's vertical BiPass implementation offers industry-leading thermal performance and low power requirements, allowing data centers to reduce power consumption, thereby reducing carbon emissions. BiPass also provides low-latency end-to-end channel performance, while reducing total cost of ownership through lower printed circuit board (PCB) costs.
Meeting Changing Data Center Layouts with 100G Optical Transceivers
Molex Moose is also driving the industry's efforts to increase the adoption of 100G and 400G optical link and module technologies. The company is deploying a full range of 100G product lines for each lambda transceiver to establish high-performance connections for data centers, clouds, and wireless applications.
As part of its customer-centric and partner-centric mission, Molex supports a complete product portfolio and roadmap that meet IEEE and MSA requirements for internal data center interconnects and data center interconnects. The expanded optical transceiver series includes 100G-DR, 100G-FR, 100G-LR, 400G-DR4 (500m and 2km), 400G-FR4, 400G-ZR, 400G-ZR+, and 800G roadmap products.
Molex's pluggable optical transceivers benefit from the company's vertical integration expertise in photonicics, optical integration, module assembly, and packaging. These capabilities and experience allow Molex to offer optimized data rates and low power consumption in a small form factor.
