MPS deploys isolation power supply segment, introduces series of medium and high power applications

Recently, MPS has released a comprehensive power conversion solution targeting the 3KW power level, achieving a power density of 2.14 watts per cubic centimeter and an overall conversion efficiency of 96%, primarily for use in 5G base stations.
This solution features an input voltage range of 85V to 265Vac and an output voltage of 48V, including a Totem Pole PFC (Topology) and LLC two-stage circuit. It employs MPS's latest products such as the isolated gate driver MP188xx, PFC/LLC controller MPF320x0, integrated power digital isolator MPQ27800, and isolated current sensor MCS180x.
According to Yin Liang, MPS's Business Development Manager for DCDC products, the flagship product, the isolated gate driver MP188xx, offers multiple channel configurations, achieving key specifications such as up to 5KV isolation withstand voltage, 100KV/us common-mode immunity, 30V output supply, and a low transmission delay of 50ns. MP18831 is an isolated half-bridge gate driver with a peak current capability of up to 4A. Utilizing MPS's proprietary high-voltage capacitive isolation technology, it can achieve a withstand voltage of 5KVRMS and a common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) rating greater than 100KV/us. This gate driver can drive various types of power switching devices, characterized by short propagation delay and low pulse width distortion. The available package options include SOIC-16 NB/WB, LGA-13, and more.

MPS 3kW Power-Rated Isolated Power Supply Solution

Another product is the integrated power four-channel digital isolator - MPQ27800. It can provide up to 150Mbps transmission rate and 5V/200mA isolated power supply. The signal transmission direction can have multiple choices, perfectly replacing traditional optocoupler isolators and providing better performance. Similarly, it uses high-voltage capacitive isolation technology, which can achieve 5KVRMS isolation withstand voltage.

In addition, MPS has also launched a series of independent isolated power supply modules such as MID1W0505 and MID6W2424. MID1W0505A is a half-modulated, isolated DC/DC converter that supports an input voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V (VIN) and an output power of 1W (POUT) within the operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. It has excellent load and line regulation. MID1W0505A-3 supports a 3kVDC isolation voltage and integrates power MOSFETs, transformers, and feedback circuits on a single chip. Compared to traditional isolated power supply modules, it provides a more compact solution with reliable performance.

On the other hand, due to the shorter transmission distance of 5G, the number of new base stations needs to be several times that of 4G base stations to achieve the same coverage. These two development trends require communication power products to pursue higher power density, more compact packaging volume, more intelligent control strategies, and stricter safety certifications. At the same time, the goal of "carbon neutrality" has led to the continuous innovation of power supply products in application areas such as charging piles, new energy vehicles, photovoltaic and wind power generation, and servers. Driven by the changes of the times, MPS has also launched a series of power ICs for medium and high-power applications, aiming to provide the industry with efficient, simple, and reliable options.
Yin Liang stated that MPS will continue to focus on launching more IC products for medium and high-power power supply applications, helping power designers to continuously develop power solutions with higher performance, faster response, smaller size, lower cost, and shorter development cycles.
